Summary

Greatest skill is inventing, creating, and designing new innovative products that produce profits. Proven track record of successfully developing over 50 new products from marketing specifications through to production, without supervision. The new products generated over a billion of dollars in sales.

Outstanding experience in integrating all aspects of new product design. This includes electronics, microcomputers, robotics, stepper motors, servos, motorized mechanisms, sensors, mechanical parts, cabling, cooling, displays, embedded software, and agency approvals.

New product design is quickly and accurately achieved by using 3-dimensional envisioning, Autocad, and Microsoft Excel.

Organized and managed seven different design teams with full project responsibility during the last 19 of the 28 years total experience. Created schedules, bills of materials, engineering specifications and change notices, cost analysis, and business planning.

Tremendous cost reduction abilities.  Very enthusiastic and hard working as a design team member.

Pertinent Expertise

Very familiar with modern manufacturing methods such as precision sheet metal operations, lasers, waterjets, punches, brakes, CAD/CAM/CNC, castings, Stereolithography, Sintered Laser Steel tooling, plastic injection tooling, extrusions, and printed circuit board automatic assembly equipment.

This combination of product design skills and manufacturing knowledge results in simple, profitable products with superior product features and benefits for the customer. Can optimize the engineering design tradeoffs with manufacturing processes, including DFM (design for Manufacturability). Also have high skills for designing and laying out surface mount and through-hole printed circuit boards.

Strong analytical background in electromechanical engineering principles. Wrote hundreds of computer programs for design, product performance, and cost accounting analysis. Expert in Microsoft Word, Excel, Windows, and PC hardware.

Designed and installed a computerized proposal document system which resulted in the award of a $200,000,000 NASA contract.

EXCITRON CORPORATION, Vice President of Technology. Designed. Designed seven automatic data storage robotic library products, based on 4mm, 8mm, DLT, QIC (quarter-inch cartridge), minicartridges, and 3.5" and 5.25" optical cartridges.

Exceptional commonality, modularity, and simplicity. Precision sheet metal parts were designed for easy tab and slot assembly with very little hardware. The product manufacturing cost was the lowest in the industry, and the products were the smallest and lightest of all competitive products.

COLORADO TECH DESIGNS, Vice President of Technology. Designed, developed, manufactured, and marketed six automatic data storage robotic library products using 4mm and 8mm tape, and 5.25" optical cartridges. These products were based on a simple carousel design. Data capacity ranged from 60 to 480 gigabytes.

ALLIED SIGNAL/BENDIX, Systems Engineer (at Ball Aerospace Systems). Designed computer controllers for laser satellite tracking and data analysis equipment. Technical Manager for NASA servo tracking satellite antennas. Designed AZ-EL and X-Y antennas using stepper motors. Special hardware consultant for Voice of America telecommunications project. President of Bendix User's Group and top PC Specialist/Guru. Designed and installed a PC-based computerized proposal writing system which won a $200 million NASA contract.

GENERAL INSTRUMENTS, Engineering Program Manager. Responsible for selection and management of CAE/CAD/CAM workstations. Designed desktop computers, automatic check processors, optical character readers, and dot-matrix printers. Successfully subcontracted $110 million (yearly) of electromechanical subassemblies to qualified subcontract companies.

TECH DESIGNS, INC., Engineering Director. Designed joysticks, game paddles, software, and controllers for Apple and IBM computers. The paddles and joysticks were rated the best in two leading computer magazines.

EMIDATA MALCO PLASTICS: Engineering Manager designing custom high speed credit card production equipment such as slitters, stackers, sorters, automatic assembly devices, chemical applicators, and magnetic card readers. Received $1,500 award for designing and developing an automatic magnetic tape application machine in 6 weeks.

COLUMBIA DATA PRODUCTS, Engineering Manager. Designed desktop microcomputers, data buffers, RS232 protocol converters, QIC tape drives, keyboards, CRT drivers, and custom hardware interfaces. These new products increased sales from $60,000 to over $100 million in two years.

CGR MEDICAL CORP, Project Engineer. Designed medical equipment such as Electronic Tomography, CAT Scanner, CARES (Computer Assisted Radiological Reporting System), X-ray Collimator, X-ray tilting tables. The Tomography product employed 4 micro-computers, 3 stepper motors drives, a laser, and a data communications network. It generated $5 million in sales at a national show.
